Dr. Mark S. Gerig, Ph.D., LMHC, is a Professor of Counseling at Divine Mercy University, Sterling, VA. He is a clinical mental health counselor in Indiana and licensed psychologist in Michigan. His professional career has alternated between full-time clinical practice and graduate education. Dr. Gerig has been quite active in professional counseling organizations and has been honored as the Indiana Mental Health Counselor of the Year (2003) and American Mental Health Counselors Counselor Educator of the Year (2004-2005). Mark is a frequent presenter at regional and national conferences,  and author of Foundations in Clinical Mental Health Counseling: An Introduction to the Profession (3rd ed., Pearson). His current research interests are the role of intellectual virtues in the practice of professional counseling, the professional identity of clinical mental health counselors, and application of wellness interventions in the remediation of mental illness. He presently resides near Marion, Indiana with his wife Michelle, and Brimley (their Black Lab).
